Early entries by email to margaretmacrae@btinternet.com are invited as early as possible before the festival giving the following details;

Entries will also be accepted on the weekend. Every competitor will be required to fill in an entry form in the Village Hall from 11am on Saturday.

Parish Church (Saturday 5th July)

1.00 pmMen’s Traditional SingingAny traditional song from the British Isles or the entrant’s own tradition.

Entrants who have never won any folk festival traditional singing competition will be eligible for a Best Novice Award within both competitions.
1.30 pmWomen’s Traditional Singing
2.00 pmChildren’s Singing (U16)Any traditional song from the British Isles or the entrant’s own tradition.
2.30 pmBorder BalladAny Ballad which refers to an area either side of the Scottish/ English border or is in Scott’s Minstrelsy of the Borders.
3.00 pmPoetry Recitation (Open)
3.15 pmOriginal Poetry (Open)
3.30 pmStorytelling (Open)
4.00 pmOriginal Song (Open)

All competitions are open to all ages but there will be an award for best entrants aged under 16 in each.

Original Songs must be performed by the composer and composed recently enough to not yet be in the public domain.

Village Hall (Saturday 5th July)

1.00 pmAccordion Solo (Open)This is open to Piano or Button Accordions. Players will play 3 tunes of varied tempo.
1.20 pmFiddle Solo (Open)3 traditional tunes of varied tempo.
1.40 pmBorder/Northumbrian Pipes Solo (Open)3 traditional tunes of varied tempo.
2.00 pmOriginal Tune (Open)Entrants may submit more than one entry but each on a separate entry form. Tunes must be performed by the composer and composed recently enough to not yet be in the public domain.
2.20 pmMiscellaneous Instrument3 traditional tunes of varied tempo played on any acoustic instrument not classified in any other competition.
2.40 pmTraditional Instrumental Pairs (Open)3 traditional tunes of varied tempo. Each performer must
alternate between playing melody or accompaniment.
3.00 pmCeilidh Band (Open)2 sets of tunes, each with a medley of either waltz, jig, march, hornpipe or reel tempo.
3.20 pmCountry Dance Band (Open)2 sets of tunes each with a medley of either waltz, jig march, hornpipe or reel tempo.


In every competition there will be an award for the best entrants aged under 16.

Any entrant aged under 16 has the option of playing only 2 tunes in their performance.
